Reflection of my Fifth lesson

Topic: Name of the clothes                        Class: PP

Now that, the school is equipped with ICT facilities and also with internet connections, every teachers plan their lesson integrating ICT. I have noticed that most teachers in my school take their children to ICT classroom whenever the room is free. I am also one among them who visits ICT room. I have begun to feel that teaching children integrating ICT is much easier and fruitful for both teacher and student.

On 18th November, 2021, I took children of Pre-Primary children to ICT room to teach children on the topic ‘Clothes’. It was in the first period. My lesson objectives were, by the end of the lesson the child will be able to:

a. Name clothes they wear in schools and at home correctly after teacher’s demonstration.

b. tell about  their favorite clothes.

I actually wanted to show them the video lesson on clothes that is given in the link. Before I actually started my lesson, I have written the topic on the white board and drew some pictures of clothes on the boards. I asked them whether they know what they see, followed by inviting children to show clothes they wear while in schools.

After that, I have shown them the video, as given in the link in Instructional guide. https://:youtu.be/8e9fcZeh-oM.  There the children were taught about other clothes too such as, jackets, trousers, skirts etc.  Next, I made some of them talk about their favorite clothes. I have observed that, children were so happy to talk about their best clothes.

As a small classroom activity, I have called each students in pair in front of the class, and made them say names of some common clothes they wear by pointing out what his/ her friend is wearing. I have stressed more on the national dress and highlighted on importance and uniqueness of out national dress. while, I also provided help to those who struggled in the activity. they were also educated on where and why it's necessary to wear gho and kira while visiting places such as offices, schools, lhakhangs and dzongs.

All the children were active throughout the lesson and displayed full energy to learn. Everybody seemed to have understood the lesson, and enjoyed the activity. I was satisfied since my lesson objectives were achieved. However, it was not that, there was not any problem. There were few things I need to take care in my next lesson. Firstly, since the internet was slow, the link took a little longer to open than I expected delaying the lesson timing.  Moreover, the speaker stopped to work due to come  connection issues, children had difficulty in hearing with low sound.  I shall take care of this in my next lesson.

Reflection of my lesson

Phases of the Moon

In the afternoon of 29th October, 2021 I have taken another Science lesson for 60 minutes on the  topic, ‘Our Moon’ integrating ICT for class five student. I have deliberately chosen this topic to teach using ICT because children would see the’ Moon’ not only through diagram but also through a video clip so that they can get the authentic concept of how the moon look and its workings.

The lesson was introduced by asking them to tell about what they know about the moon. Everything that the children spoke was written on the white board. I let the children run through again making them read aloud. Next I told them that they will now learn more about the moon.

Then, I have told them to read the text silently for about two minutes which was followed by a short explanation by the teacher about the moon. They were introduced to some facts about the moon then.  After that I have told them to put their computer on and type the link which I wrote on the white board. (https://www.moonconnection.com/moon.phases.) in the search button. They were made to listen to a short video clip about the moon. Children were told to list down whatever they understood from this short video.

Next I told to type ‘phrases of moon’ and continue watching the clip. Here the children were asked to closely look at what makes the moon look differently in their shape each day. I introduced them to the different phrases of moon such as New moon, waxing crescent, First quarter moon etc. In my lesson closure, I have told them to draw different phrases of moon in their note book which was followed by some questions to check their understanding of the lesson.

All children seemed to have enjoyed and learnt a lot from this video lesson.  When we reviewed the lesson later during question answer session, most children were enthusiastically participating and responding correctly.

I was also equally satisfied because, not only I have achieved my lesson objectives but also it helped me make learning more meaningful and enjoyable to the children.  I know that there are many things I have to learn on effective use of ICT integration in the lesson, yet, my knowledge and skills on this is gradually improving. I will be taking more of such lessons (integrating ICT) since I found teaching and learning are made more meaningful and fun.

Different sources of electricity

Reflection of my lesson

Name of teacher: Karma Wangmo                        Date: 22nd October 2021

Period: 6th      Duration: 50 minutes                       Class: V               Subject: Science

Topic: Sources of electricity

Teaching Learning Materials: Laptop and Projector

Lesson Objectives: By the end of the lesson each child will be able to

i.    list down various sources of electricity used in the community after the teacher’s explanation.

ii.  explore different sources of electricity and write two advantages and disadvantages of each sources of electricity.

On 22nd October I have taken a science lesson on the topic, Sources of electricity for class V students. It was conducted in the sixth period. The duration of lesson was 50 minutes. To conduct my lesson I have used ICT classroom with the aim to provide children an opportunity to handle computer and browse the net themselves to gather information.

In my introductory part, we discussed on some of the sources of electricity used at home and in schools. I have written all their answers on the board and we all read it together. As a first activity, I have shown them a video lesson by typing the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAXHHMFjpQM. The children were made to listen and watch video clips on how hydro power works. As they were watching, I have told them to write down all the information that they could collect on the topic. I have also told them to list few advantages and disadvantages of the water electricity.

Next, I have divided children into four groups. Each group was given one topic each and was asked to watch the video clips and find some  information on how electricity is generated on  the topic they are assigned. They were also asked to write some advantages and disadvantages of using each sources by browsing through google. Below are the topics assigned for them in groups.

Group 1: How is wind electricity generated

Group 2: How is solar electricity generated

Group 3. How is nuclear electricity generated

Group 4: How is coal electricity generated

The one child from each group was made to read out what they have understood after watching video clips and also shared some advantages and disadvantages of the electricity sources. All other children were asked to make a note when their friends presented their task. In my lesson closer, there was question –answer session followed by giving homework.

The lesson using ICT came up successful as my objectives were fulfilled. Children seemed to have learnt because their responses to my questions were true and immediate. Children seemed to have also enjoyed browsing through the net and watching video lesson. They were asking me whether such lessons would be carried out in future.

I was truly satisfied because there were smiles radiating from their innocent faces as we moved out of the ICT classroom. It gave me extra motivation and I am looking forward to taking more of such lessons integrating ICT.

Although my lesson was successful, yet, there were some lapses such as; the lesson took more than I have thought. Children took a little longer time when they were presenting their lesson.  In the group activity part children looked confused since they did not know what to do; I should have simplified the activity. In my next lesson, I would take care of these lapses.

Reflection of my lesson

On 21st September, 2021, I have taken English lesson for class PP integrating ICT. The topic I taught them was about animal. I took the lesson on first period and I could see curiosity and excitement in the eyes of those innocent ones.

I have deliberately planned to teach this topic using ICT because one of my objectives was that.  I wanted to make children know about animals around them and also some common animals that are found in our country and outside Bhutan too. As I showed them pictures of animals and asked them what that was, there were a few of them who could not even recognize some common animals such as pig, yaks and sheep. It was obvious, since these animals are not found in their place.

Children loved every picture I showed them on the screen. The classroom environment was extremely lively as all children were actively participating. Children were seen contemplating over those animal that they haven’t seen and kept on asking me questions such as what is the name of the animal?, what does it eat ? etc. Even those children who rarely participate looked motivated and curious.

The video clip on animal and rhyme was what most children loved. They were excitingly singing along with the video and learnt the most from it. By the time the bell rang, I felt contented because the lesson objectives that I have set were all met and children seem to be satisfied and happy too with the lesson.

English lesson with ICT integration(Reflection)

Integration of ICT in my English lesson(blends)

Learning with enthusiasm not only make lesson easier but also understandable and fun. Introduction of ICT in our Bhutanese Curriculum has not only eased teachers’ workload but also made teachers teach creatively. Children seem to enjoy school and show keen to learn with excitement every day.

Beginning this year, most of the schools in the nation has been provided with ICT facilities as teaching ICT has now become a major subject. Teachers have already begun taking ICT lesson in full swing. And more importantly, the ICT integration in the lesson has become a regular ritual nowadays.

On 9th August, I have prepared a lesson on the topic,’ Teaching blending’ to grade two children. Using the available facilities, the lesson was focused on to teach children listen to an original letter sounds spoken by the native speakers and also to enhance children’s ability to blend letters to make a words or pronounce it correctly.

Children were first shown how to browse net practically following teacher’s steps and later they were shown a video. Interestingly, it was exciting to see children grossly enjoying and significantly participating in the lesson. There was different mood and environment created as children were willingly doing activities with full zeal. It was quite surprising to see even children who seldom talk have become talkative suddenly.    I have come to an understanding that more of such lessons should be done if ever I wanted a success.

Although, lesson was going as I have desired yet few of the children were struggling especially in typing as they were not mush use to it, moreover, since it's first time handling computer, they seems to be hesitating fiddling with it.

I have observed that children were satisfied, contended and happy as they exited the ICT room. There were hardly any disciplinary issues. Integrating ICT in a lesson looks to be a solution to many issues a teacher faces.
