Reflection of my lesson

Phases of the Moon

In the afternoon of 29th October, 2021 I have taken another Science lesson for 60 minutes on the  topic, ‘Our Moon’ integrating ICT for class five student. I have deliberately chosen this topic to teach using ICT because children would see the’ Moon’ not only through diagram but also through a video clip so that they can get the authentic concept of how the moon look and its workings.

The lesson was introduced by asking them to tell about what they know about the moon. Everything that the children spoke was written on the white board. I let the children run through again making them read aloud. Next I told them that they will now learn more about the moon.

Then, I have told them to read the text silently for about two minutes which was followed by a short explanation by the teacher about the moon. They were introduced to some facts about the moon then.  After that I have told them to put their computer on and type the link which I wrote on the white board. (https://www.moonconnection.com/moon.phases.) in the search button. They were made to listen to a short video clip about the moon. Children were told to list down whatever they understood from this short video.

Next I told to type ‘phrases of moon’ and continue watching the clip. Here the children were asked to closely look at what makes the moon look differently in their shape each day. I introduced them to the different phrases of moon such as New moon, waxing crescent, First quarter moon etc. In my lesson closure, I have told them to draw different phrases of moon in their note book which was followed by some questions to check their understanding of the lesson.

All children seemed to have enjoyed and learnt a lot from this video lesson.  When we reviewed the lesson later during question answer session, most children were enthusiastically participating and responding correctly.

I was also equally satisfied because, not only I have achieved my lesson objectives but also it helped me make learning more meaningful and enjoyable to the children.  I know that there are many things I have to learn on effective use of ICT integration in the lesson, yet, my knowledge and skills on this is gradually improving. I will be taking more of such lessons (integrating ICT) since I found teaching and learning are made more meaningful and fun.

Different sources of electricity

Reflection of my lesson

Name of teacher: Karma Wangmo                        Date: 22nd October 2021

Period: 6th      Duration: 50 minutes                       Class: V               Subject: Science

Topic: Sources of electricity

Teaching Learning Materials: Laptop and Projector

Lesson Objectives: By the end of the lesson each child will be able to

i.    list down various sources of electricity used in the community after the teacher’s explanation.

ii.  explore different sources of electricity and write two advantages and disadvantages of each sources of electricity.

On 22nd October I have taken a science lesson on the topic, Sources of electricity for class V students. It was conducted in the sixth period. The duration of lesson was 50 minutes. To conduct my lesson I have used ICT classroom with the aim to provide children an opportunity to handle computer and browse the net themselves to gather information.

In my introductory part, we discussed on some of the sources of electricity used at home and in schools. I have written all their answers on the board and we all read it together. As a first activity, I have shown them a video lesson by typing the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAXHHMFjpQM. The children were made to listen and watch video clips on how hydro power works. As they were watching, I have told them to write down all the information that they could collect on the topic. I have also told them to list few advantages and disadvantages of the water electricity.

Next, I have divided children into four groups. Each group was given one topic each and was asked to watch the video clips and find some  information on how electricity is generated on  the topic they are assigned. They were also asked to write some advantages and disadvantages of using each sources by browsing through google. Below are the topics assigned for them in groups.

Group 1: How is wind electricity generated

Group 2: How is solar electricity generated

Group 3. How is nuclear electricity generated

Group 4: How is coal electricity generated

The one child from each group was made to read out what they have understood after watching video clips and also shared some advantages and disadvantages of the electricity sources. All other children were asked to make a note when their friends presented their task. In my lesson closer, there was question –answer session followed by giving homework.

The lesson using ICT came up successful as my objectives were fulfilled. Children seemed to have learnt because their responses to my questions were true and immediate. Children seemed to have also enjoyed browsing through the net and watching video lesson. They were asking me whether such lessons would be carried out in future.

I was truly satisfied because there were smiles radiating from their innocent faces as we moved out of the ICT classroom. It gave me extra motivation and I am looking forward to taking more of such lessons integrating ICT.

Although my lesson was successful, yet, there were some lapses such as; the lesson took more than I have thought. Children took a little longer time when they were presenting their lesson.  In the group activity part children looked confused since they did not know what to do; I should have simplified the activity. In my next lesson, I would take care of these lapses.
